Credit Unions Team Up to Collect 3,000 Jars of Peanut Butter
August 29, 2013

MERRILLVILLE | Credit unions across the Calumet Region have teamed up to Spread the Love by collecting donations of peanut butter and other nonperishable food items through Aug. 31.
The goal is to collect at least 3,000 jars that will be sent to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana during its Hunger Action Month in September. The public is welcome to make donations at any of the 10 participating credit unions.
“In today’s business environment, it’s a little surprising that competing companies would join forces to take care of their community,” said JoLynn Ellis of Members Source Credit Union. “However, the credo shared by all credit unions is ‘People Helping People,’ and that’s evident in this campaign.”
Michele Mihal, of Midwest Carpenters & Millwrights Federal Credit Union, added, “Collecting 3,000 jars is a lofty goal. We’re going to need help from our neighbors, even if they’re not credit union members.
"It’s likely that people drive past at least one credit union on their way home from the grocery store. A quick stop at a credit union’s donation box can make a meaningful impact on the families we’re trying to help.”
Donations for the Spread the Love campaign can be made at the following credit unions: Members Source (Merrillville, Griffith, Munster); Midwest Family (Portage); TECH (Crown Point, Merrillville, Gary, Lowell, Valparaiso); GESB Sheet Metal Workers (Portage); Great Horizons (Munster); Northern Indiana (Merrillville); ProFinance (Merrillville); US No. 1364 (Merrillville, Gary, Valparaiso, Portage); Midwest Carpenters & Millwrights (Hobart); and Local 697 (Merrillville).
