Credit Union Awards $12,500 in Scholarships

This is the 20th year that Georgia United has given the Vernon E. Carne Scholarship and the 7th year for the John F. Donoghue Catholic Scholarship. A total of approximately $142,500 has been awarded to high school seniors during the tenure of both programs. Recipients are chosen based on an essay competition with consideration given to academic accomplishments, leadership and participation in both school and community activities. The top winners for 2014 were Colin Humble of George Walton Comprehensive High School and Joseph Long of Loganville High School, respectively.
Whitfield County also had a Georgia United Scholarship Recipient this year: Robert Braden Howard of Northwest Whitfield High School in Tunnel Hill. Already accepted at Southern Polytechnic State University, Braden is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, a member of the Drama Club and plays trombone in NWWHS’s Marching Band. A member of the school’s Wrestling and Tennis teams through his Junior year, Braden is also a peer tutor in Math. He is the son of Brian and Jennifer Howard of Cohutta.
