LOS ANGELES, CA – SkyOne Federal Credit Union has announced it has expanded its partnership with the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) to provide college scholarships to students whose families are NATCA members – primarily FAA engineers and air traffic controllers. Specifically SkyOne contributed towards the 2014 President’s Scholarship – the largest of scholarships offered by NATCA. Each year NATCA awards several scholarships to the children of NATCA members, and the President’s Scholarship is awarded to the most promising scholarship applicant. SkyOne, which has long been the preferred credit union for NATCA, will provide financial support of the program for which many of SkyOne’s own members also qualify. “SkyOne was looking for additional ways to help the families of the air transportation industry, and in particular provide assistance with paying for the escalating costs of college tuitions,” said Eileen Rivera, President/CEO of SkyOne Federal Credit Union. “While good long-term financial planning and saving is a key part of parenting, sometimes it’s not enough and many of our members don’t qualify for financial aid.” “Partnering with NATCA was a logical step for SkyOne based on our strong and long-standing relationship” explained Ms. Rivera. “SkyOne has proudly been the preferred credit union for NATCA members for many years, and it’s an honor to expand this partnership through a national college scholarship program.” Victoria Velasquez (photo left) was the 2014 winner of the NATCA President’s Scholarship. Her father is not only a NATCA member, but also happens to be a SkyOne Federal Credit Union member. According to Ms. Velasquez’s scholarship essay, her father has helped her to understand the importance of fighting for the rights of groups and individuals, and has inspired her to eventually serve as a civil rights attorney.
