Rapid City, S.D. – In a fierce bidding war last month, Black Hills Federal Credit Union employees were able to raise $800 for Storybook Island Inc. through BHFCU’s annual Ugly Sweaters silent auction.
The fundraiser will support educational programs and management of the non-profit children’s park in Rapid City, South Dakota. The park’s sets, which portray characters from various children’s stories, fables and nursery rhymes, provide free, safe, and educational opportunities for children and adults all year.
“Storybook Island is an amazing part of what makes our community so special,” said Holly Peterson Pickens, chair of BHFCU’s Storybook Island Community Action Team Project. “It’s grown to become an important part of Rapid City’s identity, and we’re proud to be able to support its mission.”
BHFCU’s employees also donated 120 children’s toys for the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program and over 230 items like socks, puzzles, and deodorant to veterans in Hot Springs and Pierre in December. They also donated over 100 coats to the Hot Springs Community Action Agency.
Employee also spent time packaging over 500 pounds of potatoes for the Wall Country Cupboard Food Panty and raised money for the Western South Dakota Senior Services, Inc.’s MEALS Program, which provides hot, nutritious meals to home-bound seniors throughout Western South Dakota.
This month, employees will participate in a blood drive and more. Get involved or stay up-to-date on all of BHFCU’s current CAT Projects by
