Redwood Credit Union Supports Local Nonprofits

Redwood Credit Union employees laced up their sneakers to raise funds for local nonprofits. Staff participation in Human Race events in Sonoma, Marin and Mendocino counties resulted in raising nearly $25,000 to benefit local communities. A total of 115 volunteers, including employees, family, and friends, walked or ran a 3K or 10K course to raise money for the local nonprofit of their choice. At the 35th annual Sonoma County Human Race—the nation’s largest Human Race event—participants celebrated the “Totally Awesome 80s” theme in fun costumes while RCU’s mascot, Reddy the Redwood, posed for photos and offered moral support to walkers and runners along the way. “RCU supports numerous fundraising events throughout the year, but the Human Race is special in that it allows our staff to raise funds for whichever nonprofit they are truly passionate about,” Mishel Kaufman, senior vice president of risk management and team captain for RCU’s Human Race efforts said. “There is such strong support throughout the community for the Human Race and we’re always excited to be a part of that.” The race is just one of the many ways the $2.9 billion credit union has given back to the communities it serves. In 2015, RCU employees and officials collectively volunteered more than 3,800 hours at community events.
