TAPCO CREDIT UNION MAKES FINANCIAL EDUCATION FUN WITH BIZ KID$ DONATION
June 28, 2013

TAPCO Credit Union recently donated 6 full box sets of Biz Kid$, a television show that “teaches kids about money management and entrepreneurship” while still having fun. Three box sets were given to the South Puget Sound Boys and Girls club, two to the Pierce County Library and one to the Franklin Pierce School district. Each set includes all five seasons of the show and curriculum CDs with lessons plans and activities for teachers and students.
Carlyn Treleven, Executive Director of Teaching and Learning at Franklin Pierce Schools said, “We really appreciate a donation of such high-quality materials for our students.  Biz Kid$ will help make financial education fun!”
Biz Kid$, created by the producers of Bill Nye the Science Guy, has received 13 national Emmys and reached 271 million viewers since its airing in 2009. It was recently nominated for three additional Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in a Single Camera Editing, Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing, and Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing. The awards will be given in June, 2013.
“Biz Kids was an exceptional tool for our teens to understand and grasp the concept of financial stability. The lesson they enjoyed specifically was budgeting basics because it allowed them to relate their own finances to the real world in a relevant way”, said South Puget Sound Boys and Girls Club staff member, Vanessa.
Two teens from the Boys and Girls Club enjoy Biz Kid$ and its lifelong lessons.
“Biz kids helped me realize the difference between ‘needs’ and ‘wants’. I may want to have an Xbox 360 but I need to have food in my belly,” said Alex. “I never knew how much money I could save by using coupons. I plan to be a bargain hunter now, thanks to Biz kids,” said Cassidy.
And now thanks to TAPCO, kids in Pierce County will have the tools they need to manage their money for life, in a fun and motivating way.
