Credit union raises money for St. Baldrick's Foundation
March 20, 2013

First Community Credit Union of North Dakota entered a team in the Bismarck St. Baldrick’s challenge that was held last Friday, March 15 at the Bismarck YMCA. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation helps to fund the most promising research to make the greatest impact for children with cancer.
There was a very festive atmosphere at the event, with many participants who had dyed their hair green before the shave and others who were bedecked in St. Patrick’s Day attire. The Bismarck event raised over $200,000 - which far surpassed the 2013 goal of $150,000.
Of the money raised, First Community’s team contributed $2,412.72 – putting the team in 9th place out of 24 teams. “What started out as a simple idea snowballed into something much bigger” said Chad Schmidt, Team Captain and Branch Manager for FCCU. “I usually dread asking people for money and donations, however, this is the type of charity that makes me proud to raise money. I am also very proud of the FCCU team for stepping up to not only raise money, but to sacrifice their hair. Our sacrifices are nothing compared to what these children have to endure when they have this dreaded disease” he concluded. (Photo shows Team First Community just after they "Braved the Shave.)
