School Spotlight: Credit union helps teach youths about financial literacy

Westerly Community Credit Union announces they will be awarding $7500.00 in scholarships to local high school seniors graduating this school year.  They are offering scholarships for students attending college or a trade/industrial arts program. The WCCU Scholarship program includes four college scholarships and one trade/industrial arts scholarship all in the amount of $1500.00 each. The deadline for all these scholarships is Monday, April 15th.
The Joseph N. Cugini Memorial College Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating High School Senior attending a two or four-year college or university.  This scholarship was established to honor the many years of dedicated service by Joseph N. Cugini to the Westerly Community Credit Union. After 40 years of service, Cugini retired as President/CEO and Chairperson of the Board of Directors. His work was legendary in the Credit Union movement: with the Credit Union National Association, the Rhode Island Credit Union League, and the World Council of Credit Unions. This scholarship honors his many accomplishments achieved during his tenure at the Credit Union.  
The Robert M. Bewlay Memorial College Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating High School Senior who will be attending a two or four-year college or university upon graduation.  This scholarship was established to honor Robert M. Bewlay’s dedication and service to the Westerly Community Credit Union. As Vice President of the Credit Union for 35 years, Bewlay was instrumental in implementing the computer system and technology utilized by the Credit Union. 
Two Westerly Community Credit Union College Scholarships will be awarded to graduating High School Seniors who plan to attend a two or four-year college or university upon graduation. 
The Westerly Community Credit Union Trade/Industrial Arts Scholarships will be awarded to a graduating High School Senior who plans to attend an accredited Trade/Industrial Arts program upon graduation. Examples of Credentialed Certified Programs can be found listed on the application.
