St. Louis, MO – Each year, during the month of April, credit unions across the country spotlight their efforts to help parents and schools educate young people on the importance of saving money and learning how to spend responsibly.
This year, five St Louis-area credit unions (Alliance, Electro Savings, First Community, Southpointe and Vantage) took it one step further by combining efforts to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) of Greater St. Louis, benefiting St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center.
“Credit Union Youth Month allows us to pair our education efforts with fundraising for two amazing hospitals in the St. Louis area” said Josh Purler, Marketing Manager with Alliance Credit Union, speaking on behalf of the group of participating credit unions. “Teaching kids the importance of savings is more important than ever. The recent recession caught a lot of people financially off-guard so now parents and schools are putting financial education at the forefront where it should be.”
To raise funds while highlighting youth savings, the credit unions ran account specials during the month with incentives going to CMN. Several of the credit unions donated $5 for each new youth account opened, while others donated for deposits into existing youth accounts. Southpointe and Electro Savings employees also donated to wear jeans on Fridays during April. Combined, the five credit unions donated $3,418 to CMN.
